28: Scripture Power

Well my email time is a lot shorter this week so I’ll just share a quick story.

It’s about one of the investigators we just re-found last week. His name is Jorge and he’s 22. Before we lost track of him, he came to church with us once and we gave him a copy of the Book of Mormon, but we didn’t have a chance to explain what it was. So when we found him again last week we gave a short overview of what it is and where it came from, and left him a chapter to read (3 Nephi 11).
We saw him again earlier this week and taught a lesson about the first principles of the gospel (faith, repentance, baptism, receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost, and enduring to the end). He had read the chapter and really liked it. He said he read it late in the night when he couldn’t sleep by the light of his cell phone. We left a chapter to read about faith (Alma 32).
He texted us that night and asked for a chapter about prayer. He had already read Alma 32… all the way to chapter 37! He said his favorite was 34 though.
We are so excited that he loves the Book of Mormon so much! He really notices the Spirit that he feels while he’s reading it. I know this book is true. It’s the word of God and has great power to change our lives. As I’ve read this book I’ve strengthened my testimony that the Savior lives and that God loves each of us SO MUCH. I know that He gave us the scriptures to help us find greater happiness and peace as we journey through life’s ups and downs and inside-outs. I’d say that’s the thing that I’ve come to learn the most so far on my mission: that God loves us so much and that’s the reason for EVERYTHING that He’s done. Everything He’s done is for our benefit and so that we have the best chance we can to return to see Him again.
Los quiero mucho! Que tengan una Navidad MUY feliz! I love you! Have a very merry Christmas!
